Those who know Michael know that he has a passion for coaching basketball and mentoring our youth and giving back to the communities. Michael is a native of Virginia who attended Gar-Field High School in Woodbridge. Michael was a two-way varsity letterman athlete playing Basketball and Football. After four great years of High School, Michael was greatly appreciated to receive a basketball athletic scholarship from Virginia State University in Petersburg, VA.

While attending Virginia State University (VSU), Michael became one of VSU best basketball players in program history receiving “2004 CIAA ALL Freshman Team, 2004 VSU Sports Rookie of the Year, 2006 Team Captain, 2006 CIAA ALL Tournament Team, 2007 Team Captain, 2007 CIAA ALL Preseason Team, 2007 VSU 1000 pt. Club, 2007 CIAA Sportsmanship Award, 2007 First Team ALL CIAA and 2018 VSU Sports Basketball Hall of Fame”. With Michael demanding schedule being a scholar, he had time and the honor to join the “Beta Gamma Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc.”. After completing 4 years of college and receiving his Bachelor of Science in Sports Management, Michael had great pleasure trying out with the NBA team Atlanta Hawks, playing semi-pro with the Nova Hawks and playing for a pro team in Yucatan Merida, Mexico.

Once Michael gave up his playing career, he always had a vision of running his own program someday. With the help from George Mason Youth Basketball Summer Camps, Boys Basketball Special Olympics, Osbourn Park Boys Varsity Basketball, VA Elite AAU Basketball, Blue Devils AAU Basketball and Fairfax Sports Club AAU Basketball, it motivated Michael to run his own program and help young people out every day!

A-Team Select have added to its Coaching Staff the “Joe Clark of the Basketball court. Coach Freddie Cox brings a strong wealth of fundamental knowledge of the game basketball to include a no non-sense disciplinarian attitude to get the most out of his players. Former Varsity assistant coach at Paul VI High School, Fairfax Virginia: Varsity assistant at Potomac High School, Woodbridge Virginia.

Coach Cox also assisted Chris Whitney of the Washington Wizards to run a basketball clinic  for his Chris Whitney foundation, along with attending many coaching Basketball clinics between UNC and Duke University, to Include Jerry Dunn basketball clinic former Head Coach at Penn State, Mike Jarvis basketball clinic former Head coach at St. John’s Univ, Tommy Amakerbasketball clinic former Head Coach at Seton Hall Univ. Coach Cox 30yrs of experience coaching youth Basketball/AAU/High School is a great asset to A-TEAM Select program
